Rollin'

To get the ball rolling on this blog, I thought I'd bring a few things up.

1) I found NPR Addict...great for those of us who don't or won't take the time to pick up a newspaper or watch the news. It has a list of topics for me to pick from, then I just click and listen. The two broadcasts I listened to were like 5 minutes long; an easy way to get in touch with what's going on in the world while putting your make up on, commuting, waiting in line, etc. Now, in the very little time I spent on NPR Addict this a.m., I came across two disturbing things (keep in mind they may be disturbing to me and I appologize in advance if you are offended).
A) Some Atheists are having ceremonial de-baptisms. Some uses a hair dryer to "dry" and "absorb" the baptism waters. The hair dryer sometimes has words like "logic" or "science" on it. Then, some of them go a step further and take their certificate of de-baptism to their former church and request to be removed from the church's baptismal rolls.
B) Apparently, some 45% of us women pay our health insurance company to cover abortions. I don't know if I am one of those people, but I know I don't want to be. I'm going to look into this further. If anyone has any insight on this topic, please speak up. "Johnny 5 is alive. Need more input!!" (That quote is from the movie Short Circuit. :) )

2) Jaime has brought up the idea of making some shirts for our church. Has anyone been brainstorming on this proposition?? She needs our help. My questions to the group are:
A) What kind of message do we want the shirts to send? Advertise our church; and what part of our church do we want to advertise...that all people are welcome at the table, our service types and times, our Sunday school classes, etc; advertise that we are Disciples; advertise a general message like Jesus saves, God will lift us up, find strength in God, Jesus loves us, Jesus sacrificed for us, etc.
B) Where do we want these profits to go? The mortgage, resurfacing the parking lot, minister's emergency fund, minister salary, elders salary, education, etc.

For our T-shirt project to succeed, we need to figure out these two points first. Then, and only then, can we begin to work on the design process of this venture.

3) Do we want to advertise our blog in some way? As in, do we want to invite other female church members to participate or limit it only to those that belong to our group?

4) I'd like to discuss what we are doing to include and invite women to join our Professional Women's group and how can we make the meetings more accessible to the greater population of females. I've been inviting friends and offering to pick them up. Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions??

Well, that's all the time I have this morning.

  1. WOW Melanie that is a lot of stuff!!!

I am going to jump to the shirts first....
    1) I think, after speaking with Brett about it, we want the shirts to interrupt our Mission. If anyone is an artist and can draw up the mission (just the short verson on the bullitens) that is what I am envisioning.
    2) With the money I was envisioning putting it in the HOMe Fund. It is the new mission they are starting to help the community. In reality it is only about $2.50 profit per shirt if we sold them for $10 for S-XL, $12 for XXL and $13 for XXXL. Based on 1 color printing and any color shirt people want to order. I have been working with a screen shop in Grandview. The front will have the chalace and Raymore Christian Church on it....

OK that is my envision for this and the way I was running with it.....

    WOW De-Baptism...wow...
Abortion...not going to touch that personally....

Advertise our blog...I think we need to make a bigger presence in the bulletins, but I am not sure what all we want to advertise, Kathy will put anything that fits in it.

Invite and include women to join...I have made several announcements, and any time there is a new women in the service I make it a point to mention it to her, and attempt to get her email address to add her to our lists....We do not have to keep the group inside our walls, invite your friend, neighbors, co-workers.....

  2. OK let's retype this since something happend.

    T-Shirts...my envision...
    1) draw up the small condensed version of the mission statement....draw it not write it for the back, the front is the challece and Raymore Christian Church
    2) Money goes to HOMe mission.....it is a new ministry and they need some start up assistance, as well as some scholarship monies to help pay for trips to Slidell, Greensburge, and Cedar Rapids.

That is what my original thoughts on the shirts have always been. I just have needed the help drawing up the back, I am not an artist by any means.
The shirts will cost between $6.50 to $8.50 depending on the size. XXL and XXXl are extra hence the $8.50. If we sell them fro $10-12.50, that really is only $3.50 profit per shirt.

That is my envision for my idea on shirts...the shirts are for everyone in the congregation to wear when we are out..out as a group, out working in the community, out at a baseball game....

I had more written about the other topics, but I need to stop and get to work.....

    SMILE :):):)

  4. More questions (ain't I just full of 'em??):

    1) You said it's going to be one color, but the chalice is red & white. Am I missing something (I often do :P )??

    2) I really don't get how we would not write the mission statement, but have a picture to represent it. Throw me a bone...

  5. 1 color for print because a second color would cost an extra $2 per shirt.....

Right now I am waiting for Andy James to draw me up a design...anyone else that wants to be artistic can draw something up as well.

I am just thinking something more than just words on the back of a shirt...but who knows....right now we are free to design how we wish since there is no design as of yet.
